“It’s what you do that makes you who you are and how you project that to others that makes you memorable.”
You are you. You know everything about yourself. But often you don’t keep that knowledge to yourself…you tend to share it with the rest of the world via numerous social media platforms. You are your own unique personal brand.
Now for those who don’t know a lot about personal branding, let me tell you the most important tip. Personal branding is here to stay. It is not a trend that will disappear within two years, it’s an ongoing method that people use to distinguish themselves from the thousands of others that are just like them. It is social media, marketing, publishing, sales, work, play, passion and everything you know all bundled up into one.
So if you are new to personal branding, here are five great tips to help get you started.
1. Define your audience
When writing a blog, or any type of content, the focus must be your readers. What are their needs? What do they like? Why are they going to take the time to read your posts? You need to be able to understand your primary audience so that you can tailor your posts and develop much more focused content.
2. Get a great portrait
A great and professional photo will help establish trust and credibility among your readers and will help you connect via social media. Utilize this photo across all of your social media networks, so that your audience can easily find and recognize you on numerous social platforms.
3. Establish a look
Consistency is key with personal branding. Choose one color palate, a limited menu of legible fonts and one professionally designed logo and apply this theme to everything – your blog, your resume, your business cards, etc. This will help reduce confusion among your audience.
4. Establish a voice
You need express yourself as the individual you are. Don’t let anybody influence you or tell you how to be. Establish a voice that you can continue throughout all of the content you post. Write as yourself.
5. Connect and stay connected
The idea behind developing a personal brand is to ultimately help you stay connected. Creating a powerful and unique brand will make networking much easier. New contacts will be more likely to remember you if your brand is cohesive across all platforms.
The benefits of creating a personal brand are endless. An effective personal brand yields recognition, respect and professional opportunities. But don’t rush into it. Before creating your personal brand, understand what it is you want to get across to the world. Once you’ve figured that out, you’ll be on your way to creating your own unique personal brand!
