After a long day at work or school, sometimes we just don’t feel like entertaining others, going to our friends’ BBQ, or our neighborhood block party. Sometimes we just feel like relaxing by ourselves, doing whatever we want for the evening, without the company of our family and friends. And you know what? It’s not a crime! Sure our friends may comment that we’re lame and boring, but we won’t care. Because date nights with ourselves aren’t just relaxing, they’re a necessity.
In order to keep myself sane, I try to make at least one night a week a “me day,” meaning I’ll spend the evening by myself and do whatever I need to relax. I usually decide to curl up on the couch with a good book, cook a delicious meal, watch an old classic movie like Mrs. Doubtfire or Forrest Gump, and go to bed rather early, in order to catch up on my beauty rest.
Although we may believe that we’ll miss out on something spectacular by not spending the evening with our friends, we need to keep in mind that rest and relaxation is good for our minds. A little R&R will make our brains function better at work and it will rejuvenate our bodies for the day ahead. So next time you’re feeling a bit exhausted, take the night off. Plan an at-home date night for one and enjoy the relaxation.
