October – A Month Full of Memories

Work, school, PRSSA, eat, sleep, REPEAT. I’ve been so busy lately that I’ve barely had time to blog. And when I have had a few minutes to write up a post, it’s been inspired by something PR related or my recent freaking out about graduating soon and having to find a job! So this post is dedicated to all of the fun things that have made me happy during the wonderful month of October.

I’ll begin with my amazing experience working at Kansas Speedway during their October Chase Race Weekend. Hopefully you’ve had the chance to read all about that in my “A Dream Come True at Kansas Speedway” post. If not, feel free to check it out here!

The following week was a crazy hectic, but very rewarding one for me as well. The UCM Public Relations program and UCM PRSSA hosted the annual PR Pro Day, which I was completely in charge of planning and executing. Let me tell you, this gave me an entirely new take on event planning! It’s not all glitz and glamor that’s for sure, but it is something I’m very good at and wouldn’t mind pursuing. The event came together wonderfully and I am so proud of myself for all of the hard work I put into it. And the best part of it all was that our senior advisor, who is the owner of a pr firm in Kansas City, told me that he had no idea what to expect when he came to this event and that he was pleasantly surprised by the professionalism of it and the overall look of the event. (Definitely a confidence booster!)

The next day after Pro Day was the KC PRSA PRISM Awards, which myself and four of my UCM PRSSA friends volunteered at. This event is so much fun every year. I got to greet all of the pros coming into the event, eat absolutely delicious food and network all night. Can’t get better than that. And it allowed us to continue UCM PRSSA’s relationship with the KC PRSA group and industry professionals.

The following week wasn’t as fun, since I had two midterms, both on the same day! But the weekend made up for it, since it was UCM Homecoming! I had a blast with some of my best friends during the float, President Ambrose responded to my tweet request for a selfie and I spent the evening celebrating a huge Mules football win with my friends on the team. And the next day, I found a picture of myself in the newspaper.

And last week was great, as I attended #PRSAKC Summit at Sporting Park in KC with my UCM PRSSA group. As always, we had the largest group of students in attendance. (18 to be exact!) I met quite a few professionals, got a lot of great information and spent the day with some of my closest friends. And after the event ended, I drove up to the Country Club Plaza and went shopping. I found my graduation dress at Banana Republic and also bought a great pair of jeans.

Needless to say, I’ve had a very interesting, busy and extremely FUN October. So November, you have a have some big shoes to fill!
